Event Cancellation Questions & Answers

This page is designed to profile a variety of topics and implications for those impacted by the cancellation of the 2019 New York City Triathlon produced by Life Time. Please review the initial, high level athlete release here.

Q: How do I receive a refund?
Participants registered for the 2019 event will receive a refund in full. Registrants do not need to contact the event, as the transactions will automatically post to the registrant’s card on file within 2-3 weeks. Due to the volume of this event, it will take time to process all refunds individually so we appreciate your patience.

Q: Can you ship my packet?
Unfortunately, we cannot ship your t-shirt or packet. If you’re unable to pick up your packet, you may have a friend or relative do so on your behalf as long as they can provide a text or email received from you, giving them permission.

Q: I changed banks/paid gift card/etc., how do I receive my refund?
We will be mailing checks to any declined refund transactions. Please send an email to info@nyctri.com with your updated address if it differs from the one you used when registering.

Q: I deferred. Will I still receive a full refund including my deferral fee?
All athletes who deferred their registration will receive a refund, which will include the deferral fee. However, all deferral codes for 2020 registration will be voided.

Q: I registered through the Life Time Tri 7-Pack, do I receive a refund?
Athletes who registered for the Life Time Tri 7-Pack will receive a refund of $86, which equates to 1/7th of the price paid.

Q: Will you be reimbursing flight costs and/or other travel expenses?
Unfortunately, we are unable to reimburse personal travel expenses beyond refunding your race registration. We encourage you to reach out to the companies you booked your travel through to determine their policies.

Q: What if I shipped my bike through TriBike Transport?
TriBike Transport will be returning all bikes to their point of origin as there is no secured Transition area for them to setup. Should you have specific questions, please contact TriBike Transport’s customer service team.

Q: Will the host hotel, The Hilton Midtown, accommodate reservation cancellations/refunds?
“The New York Hilton Midtown is looking forward to hosting the New York City Triathlon produced by Life Time Health & Fitness Expo, as well as other supporting events at the hotel this weekend, while welcoming guests to the city. If guests are interested in cancelling, we encourage them to review the cancellation policy associated with the room type they selected at booking. The Hilton Midtown is committed to assisting guests whose reservations are impacted by extenuating circumstances and exceptions to the hotel cancellation policy will be made on a case-by-case basis. Guests may call 1-800-HILTONS for assistance with their booking.”
– New York Hilton Midtown spokesperson

Q: When is the 2020 event scheduled?
Next year’s event will be held Sunday, July 19, 2020 in New York City.

Q: How can I register for the 2020 event?
Those registered for the 2019 event will be provided with a priority offer to a portion of the 2020 field, relative to capacity (still TBD). Remaining slots will be filled using a random selection process. Full registration details will be unveiled soon. Thank you for your patience.

Q: I was registered to volunteer. Do I still receive a guaranteed entry to 2020?
We hope to post an update regarding 2020 registration and volunteer info soon. Thank you for your patience.
