Organization Description: Do you remember…the exhilarating rush of jumping into the deep end…and the wondrous feeling of peace, strength, and flexibility swimming brings? Swimming is a fun, safe way to get fit and keep healthy—when instruction and clean, safe pools and waterways are available to those who seek them. Swim Free is a New York City based non-profit dedicated to the health improvement of children and adults through swim. Swim Free donates goggles and swimsuits to underprivileged children, puts children and adults through learn-to-swim programs, and helps people get over their fear of the water through our Swim Free Angel program.
The preferred charity of NYC Swim, Swim Free has accomplished a lot since its founding in 2010 including:
• Collaborating with Dolfin Swimwear and Kings County Divers and donating 1,200 swimsuits to NYC public school kids participating in learn-to-swim programs.
• Launching the Swim Free Angel™ initiative to comfort people young and old in and around the water, offering encouragement and coping mechanisms. The Swim Free Angels provided support shore-side and in the water at multiple NYC Swim events and the Westchester Triathlon this past season.
• Placing adults and a class of NYC public school second graders into learn-to-swim programs.
• Securing fund-raising through charity participation in the the Panasonic NYC Triathlon, Manhattan Island Marathon Swim, Manhattan Island Relays, Ederle Swim and other NYC Swim events.
