Volunteer Positions

Volunteers are needed starting Tuesday July 15th through Sunday July 20th. As a volunteer you can assist in a number of ways:

Volunteer Team Captain (VTC): Team Captains are in charge of key areas of the NYC Tri, as well as the volunteers assigned to that area.  Captains must be able to attend 3-4 advance meetings and course tours and will report directly to NYC Tri Management.  Captains will receive a free entry into the 2009 race.  For more information on the VTC positions please contact Edwin at Edwin@korffenterprises.com

Race Weekend Volunteers (RWV): Race Weekend Volunteers are essential to the success of the NYC Tri.  RWV's are assigned to specific jobs race weekend and will report directly to the VTC's.  Participation rewards you with a guaranteed entry into the 2009 race.  To volunteer please click here to apply.

 RACE WEEKEND ASSIGNMENTS:

  • Sport & Fitness Expo: The Sport and Fitness Expo takes place in conjunction with the Nautica New York City Triathlon. All athletes must attend the expo to pickup informational packets, goodie bags and purchase merchandise. Volunteers are needed at the Expo to assist in athlete flows and the help answer questions about the race and event. (July 18-19)
  • Athlete Registration: All athletes must pick up goodie bags and race information packets at the race expo prior to the race. This takes place in the Hilton New York located on 6th Avenue between 53rd & 54th Streets.(July 18-19).
  • Bike Check-in:  All athletes are required to check their bike into the transition area the day before the race. Volunteers are needed to assist athletes in finding their bike rack and number and to assist with traffic control. (July 19)
RACE DAY ASSIGNMENTS:
  • AID Stations: A number of aid stations are setup throughout the course to assist any athletes that may have been injured during the race or are in need of assistance.
  • Marshals: Volunteers are needed in various locations along the course to make sure that athletes remain on the right path and heading in the right direction. If you have a loud voice, this is the position for you!
  • Athlete Body Marking/Chip Distribution: Use permanent markers to mark some hot athlete bods! Athletes are marked with their race number and age to assist in wave assignments and timing. ChampionChips are handed out to all athletes in order to calculate their official times.
  • Finish Area: Assistance at the finish line is needed handing out water, Accelerade, medals, and removing athletes timing chip. Athletes finishing out a long morning will need a strong shoulder to lean on!
  • Transition Areas: Volunteers are located at key areas throughout the transition areas to assist in securing entrances and making sure that only athletes enter trasition areas.
  • Clothing: Assist in collecting, moving, dressing and distributing athlete clothing at both swim start and the finish area.
  • Elite Volunteer Task Force: This team of volunteers will be assigned to work either in Central Park, or Riverside Park to assist in multiple areas of need throughout the day. All volunteers in this new category will be rewarded for their support with special 2008 NYC Triathlon gear. Flexibility is a necessity to this assignment.
  • Volunteer Tent: This very important tent is for volunteers only!! Help keep spirits high and food plentiful. Great place to meet fellow volunteers or even your soul mate!
