Team Donate Life - SOLD OUT

Team Donate Life, supporting the New York Organ Donor Network, will take part in the Nautica New York City Triathlon on July 18, 2010! All funds raised through Team Donate Life will be used to support the Donor Network’s public education programs to increase enrollments in the New York State Donate Life Registry. The organization’s education programs reach out to health care professionals and the general public in the greater New York metropolitan area. The goal is to save the lives of more than 9,000 people in New York State who are waiting for organ transplants.
Since New York has only 11% of its population enrolled on the New York State registry, we want to encourage more people to sign up. We also want to, demonstrate that transplantation works, and at the same time encourage more people to take care of their health.
The Donate Life Team was founded in 2009 by heart recipient and Donor Network volunteer, John Acquaro, who was diagnosed with a progressive heart disease 23 years ago for which there is no cure. On April 1, 2007, John received a heart – and the gift of life – from a brave and generous 23 year old woman and her family. Realizing that life is not to be taken for granted, John and his team mates are swimming, biking and running in honor of this anonymous donor and on behalf of the over 104,000 people on the waiting list in the United States – and to save lives.
At this time, team members include Dr. Jerry Balentine, Chief Medical Officer of St. Barnabas Hospital in the Bronx, whose seven year old daughter, Alexia, received a heart in this summer, and Shannon Kelly, a 39 year old heart recipient.
Would you like to join this exciting team and support the Gift of Life? As a Donate Life athlete you will receive a Donate Life triathlete uniform (featuring the Donate Life logo and the number of people on the organ waiting list), (personalized training tips/schedules), and an opportunity to participate in the event in memory or in honor of a loved one touched by organ/tissue donation. The price of entry is $500.00 for each participant (including each relay spot). If you are interested in participating, please contact John Acquaro at jacquaro@aol.com, phn: 516-729-4651 or Donate.Life.Tri.Team@gmail.com And don’t forget…To sign up to become a donor please go to www.SaveLivesNewYork.org !

The Catalog for Giving
The Catalog for Giving is proud to be a charity partner of the NYC Triathlon. All proceeds from the event will go to our member organizations. The Catalog for Giving® is a small non-profit with a ‘very big idea’ – to transform the lives of New York City’s young people who have been adversely affected by poverty, crime, drugs, and violence. Every three years, we go in search of the ‘best of the best’ of small groups that are doing unusual and effective things to help disadvantaged kids. We vet them rigorously, and from hundreds of applications, we select ten to fund over a three-year period giving them the chance to mature and reach self-sufficiency. Then, we repeat the process. Please visit www.catalogforgiving.org to learn about our current member organizations. What makes the Catalog unique is the fact that all expenses are fully funded by our board so every dollar you give, or help to raise, goes directly to our participating agencies. Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation SOLD OUT
About Pulmonary Fibrosis
Pulmonary Fibrosis involves scarring of the lung. Gradually, the air sacs of the lungs become replaced by fibrotic tissue. When the scar forms, the tissue becomes thicker causing an irreversible loss of the tissue’s ability to transfer oxygen into the bloodstream.
About the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation
The Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation is the primary organization dedicated to finding a cure for and raising awareness of pulmonary fibrosis, an often fatal lung disease. The Foundation is also devoted to improving the quality of life for those afflicted with this illness.
Why Join our Team?
Team members will make their miles more meaningful by dedicating their ability and strength to those that are living with pulmonary fibrosis or for their loved ones that they lost. It is a tremendous step in finding a cure and promoting awareness on this under diagnosed and terminal disease. And, because every step taken is more meaningful then the last, you'll have the extra inspiration you need knowing you're running for those that fight to breathe.
We are requiring each participant to raise a minimum of $500 to obtain one of these slots.
For further information, please call (312-587-9272) or email the Foundation:
