Meet Our Medical Team

Dr. Josef J. Geldwert is the medical director at the Center for Podiatric Care and Sports Medicine. His podiatric surgical practice specializes in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disorders and diseases of the foot and ankle for children, adults and seniors. He is Board Certified in Foot and Ankle Surgery, a Fellow in the American Academy of Podiatric Sports Medicine and a Clinical Instructor in the Department of Orthopedics at the Mt. Sinai School of Medicine. Dr. Geldwert has served as the Podiatrist for the Women's Soccer World Cup, the New York Women's Professional Soccer team, the US Olympic Marathon trials and is the former CO-Chief for Lower Extremity Injuries for the NYC Marathon.

Mark J. Klion, M.D. is a Board Certified Orthopedic Surgeon with fellowship specialty training in sports medicine. Dr. Klion is a clinical instructor at the Mt. Sinai School of Medicine and is an active member of the shoulder and sports medicine service. Dr. Klion performs the newest techniques for knee ligament reconstruction, cartilage repair, regeneration, and meniscal transplantation. He has extensive training and expertise in the treatment of all shoulder injuries including arthroscopic rotator cuff repair, arthroscopic shoulder instability repair, and shoulder replacement. He also has extensive expertise in the treatment of fractures.
Dr. Klion's outside interests include triathlon participation, which has led him to complete eight Ironman triathlons including the Hawaii Ironman 2000/2001, numerous marathons and other endurance events.

Stephen A. Sands, Psy.D. is an Assistant Professor in Pediatrics and Psychiatry at the Columbia University Medical Center. He also serves as the Director of the Valerie Fund Psycho-Social Program at the Herbert Irving Child and Adolescent Oncology Center. In this administrative capacity, he is responsible for coordinating the delivery of mental health services, ranging from psychology and psychiatry to social work and child life, to all patients and families within the pediatric oncology program at the Columbia University Medical Center and the Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital of NY-Presbyterian.
