JANUS FINANCIAL EXECUTIVE CHALLENGE COACHING TIP #7:  Nutrition - The Big Picture

Working out the specifics of training and racing nutrition is pretty well documented and understood. The issue of day to day nutrition and how it factors into the constant focus of athletes and what has spawned an overwhelming industry that revolves around it is of particular interest.

§         It seems pretty logical to document all your athletic workouts as a record to look back on, and make decisions about their impact on your training sessions and race performance.  So what about general 'eating'?Documenting food intake provides valuable insight into connection between mental and physical feelings not just during training but what happens in between.

§         Trying to keep an honest record also helps to keep things on track during busy times when good nutrition loses priority.

§         Having a written record also helps to keep perspective, if there is a 'bad stretch'.  Much like training, sometimes life necessitates a couple of blank days in the training log, but helps keep perspective that the overall consistency is still in place - same goes for nutrition.

§         Having a general nutrition log becomes a powerful focusing device that keeps an internal dialog going to remind you about what you are trying to achieve, and keeps it a more conscious part of your day to day life.

§         Some kind of objective record also takes the emotion out of this area.  The facts are there right in front of you, and can then be easily equated with your athletic progress, emotional state, recovery and general day to day well being and health.
